Seven factors to keep in mind when using Instagram for your therapy business

In today's world, social media platforms are essential tools for engaging and reaching target audiences. 🙌

This is especially true for businesses and professionals seeking to connect with their audience.

Therapists, mental health professionals, and medical doctors are now using Instagram as a preferred platform for genuinely promoting services and engaging with potential clients due to its broad user base and visual appeal.

However, starting this journey requires more than an account and a few posts.

To effectively promote your therapy business on Instagram, careful consideration is required due to the platform's untapped potential. 😉

Here are seven things to keep in mind when using Instagram for your therapy business.

1️⃣ Your strategy needs to evolve and shouldn't be stagnant.

Don't let your Instagram strategy stagnate.

It should continually evolve to adapt to Instagram's updates, and reflect changes in your business and your audience's needs.

Keep tabs on what's effective and what's not, and tweak your approach accordingly to stay ahead of the game.

Be adaptable to trends, algorithm shifts, and your growing knowledge of your what your community needs.

Regularly reassess and refine your plan to keep it efficient and effective. 😉

2️⃣ Don't expect your ideal audience to find you - first. Be the first one to connect.

Although you might envision your ideal clients finding your profile effortlessly, the reality is often different and trust needs to be earned - especially online.

Don't wait passively for them to discover you; take the initiative to reach out!

Connect with your target audience through comments, direct messages, and collaborations, and build genuine relationships with them.

Remember to be proactive in your approach to foster stronger connections.

3️⃣ Your credibility is not equal to the number of followers you have.

This one is something that I would constantly remind everyone in my community especially those therapists or mental health professionals who are still starting out or are just a few months in.

The thinking that more followers = higher credibility is the number one myth - based on my experience as a seasoned social media manager and strategist.

If this one was true, you could've just based your years of hardwork on people's likes which isn't just unfair - it totally doesn't make sense. 🤷‍♀️

Shift your focus and perspective.

Prioritize creating high-quality content that offers value to your audience and establishes trust in your expertise. 🤝

4️⃣ It takes time, considerable amount of effort, and patience for trials and errors.

Don't be discouraged if your Instagram account is not progressing as rapidly as you hoped - there's no magic formula for instant success simply because it doesn't exist.

Growing your presence and influence on the platform takes time, effort, and patience.

Remember to learn from your mistakes, keep experimenting, unlearn mindsets that hinder you to move forward, and embrace setbacks as opportunities for growth until you discover what works for you. 😊

5️⃣ Having 10k or more followers doesn't always mean high sales. Consider the quality of the community that you have.

This is why knowing and understanding your ideal audience AKA who you want to talk to is of high importance.

Say you're selling online courses/offers, how can you effectively sell this course if:

-you don't know who this course is for?

-you're unsure what their current challenges are and how this offer can help them?

-you can't paint a picture of a before and after or what the transition will look like in their lives?

These questions are just examples of really learning your ideal audience inside and out.

Although having a high number of followers may seem appealing, it doesn't always translate to increased sales or conversions because it also doesn't work that way.

Instead, focus on attracting 'your people' or the people who are genuinely interested in your offerings and services.

6️⃣ Connect and collaborate with fellow therapists to help widen your reach.

Instagram can be an influential tool for therapists and medical doctors.

By collaborating with other mental health professionals, you can expand your reach and share valuable insights with new audiences.

Instead of viewing them as competitors, try considering them as potential allies in advocating for mental health 🙏

One other benefit to this is you get to expand your network - either refer clients or them referring clients to you!

Isn't that a win-win?

7️⃣ Start with what you can do/learn at the moment, your direction is more.

When it comes to Instagram, take your time and don't rush the process. I know you know this and take this as a gentle reminder 💖

Begin with what you can handle and what feels comfortable for you.

Remember, learning and growth take time and are gradual processes.

Instead of: -worrying about the pace, focus on the direction you're heading

-comparing where you're at with others, shift your attention to the first few steps in front of you

Authenticity and consistency are more important than speed, and they'll definitely take you further in the long run. 🚀

Instagram can be a valuable tool for therapists, mental health professionals, and medical doctors looking to promote their businesses and make a positive impact in the health and wellness space.

However, it's important to remember that this platform doesn't always generate immediate results.

By embracing these seven considerations and approaching Instagram strategically and authentically, you can leverage its potential to build a meaningful online presence and expand your influence in the realm of mental health.
